About the artist
Soprano Katherine Fuller has built her versatile career on operatic and musical theatre stages throughout the Northeast and Midwest. Her recent credits include “Papagena” in The Magic Flute (Cambridge Chamber Ensemble,) title role in Patience, “Fiametta” in The Gondoliers (Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company of Chicago,) “Katharine/Lilli” in Kiss Me Kate (Longwood Players,) “Claudia” in Nine (AFD Theatre) and “Narrator/Lady in White” in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Quest Theatre Ensemble.) She has been a soloist with University of Chicago Chamber Orchestra, Middlesex Concert Band and a guest artist with the Salem Arts Association. An advocate of new music, she regularly collaborates with composers on premiere productions of their work. In 2017, she will sing the title role in Kevin Bleau's new musical Roswitha. Mrs. Fuller was recently named a finalist for the 2017 Classical Singer Magazine National Competition (Emerging Artist Division) and will compete in the final competition in May.
Offstage, Katherine is an in demand music educator and director. She has served as both a clinician and teaching artist at the 2014-2017 Massachusetts Music Educator Association annual conferences, Salem Cultural Council and multiple school districts across New England. As a conductor, she specializes in elementary choral education and her choruses have received multiple high and superior ratings from the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association. She has taught music, guitar, world drumming and voice within the King Philip Regional School District, Chicago Public Schools, Buffalo Grove Public Schools, Cambridge Camping Association and currently serves as a general music teacher,choral director and private voice teacher in the Bedford Public Schools. Outside of the classroom, Katherine harbors a passion for world music. She studied West African dance, singing and drumming at the Dagbe Cultural Institute, Ghana for three summers and continues to connect her learning to both teaching and performing. She is the founder and director of the Lane World Music Drumming Ensemble in Bedford, MA, a beginner ensemble that focuses on West African and Afro-Brazilian drumming repertoire. Currently, Mrs. Fuller is arranging a set of traditional songs from the Ewe people of Ghana for use in the elementary choral classroom. |
